Change – by your efforts

Posted on Leave a commentPosted in Challenge, Potential

That change is necessary is beyond argument,
however, what makes change sure and permanent?

Of course we want things to be better in our lives,
… and generally we are the ones who need to change.
Yet, in most cases we rely on our own efforts and strength,
… the same efforts that actually brought us to where we are,
efforts that are unlikely to bring success!

Consider this …

If I am the source and thus the power behind the change,
… then I also have to maintain the change by my efforts!
Yet seeing the change is necessary because of what I got myself into,
… then me being the source and power to sustain it,
has no foundation and will most certainly not work!

Any change that is the result of our own effort,
… has to be maintained by our effort.
So clearly, on our own we won’t make it, we need help!
God’s help and God’s favour.
As Jesus explained …

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send
in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your
remembrance all things that I said to you.
      John 14:26

True change comes from the inside,
… and we have the Creator Himself abiding in us,
As we hear Him, and depend on Him,
change will not only be easy, but complete!

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
      And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.
      Prov 3:5-6

Do it because …

Posted on 1 CommentPosted in Challenge, Faith, Potential

Don’t do or act on something,
… because you heard it said,
… because you heard it preached,
… because you have read it,
or because you have confessed it!

There is no actual authority or power in doing that,
… and there will also be no results because of that,
unless you try to make it happen yourself!

DO IT … because YOU know!

Because you know WHAT?
… Because you know there is real power behind it!
How will you know there is real power behind it?
… Because you KNOW God, the One who has the power!
And that He wants to use His power on your behalf!

Not because you know of Him,
      Not because you need Him!

      But because you KNOW
… that God said He would do it!
      and because you KNOW that
… God has in fact already done it!
and that He has done it for you!

God’s Word is living and powerful (Heb.4:12)
… and releases authority and power in your life,
when He speaks it to you. (Isa.55:11)

So, do what He tells you to do!
Confess your authority, according to His Word,
… not according to your need!
      Confess what He shows you,
… and you will have what He said!

If you abide in Me and My words abide in you,
you will ask whatever you desire and it will be done for you.
      John 15:7

It’s up to you …

life

      What YOU choose
      is what you get!

Why does a loving God not stop the suffering on earth?
Is it possible that God somehow does not care?
Certainly not, He does care and in fact He wants us to enjoy life
(John 10:10)

I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you,
      that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing;
      therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live;
      Deut 30:19

Why then is there still so much suffering?

Considering that when God made man He did not make a robot,
… but He made him a special being with a free will,
… and God Himself ensured that man’s choice is truly free,
which also meant that God would never override man’s choice,

The adversary however was quick to test man’s freewill,
… and instead of listening to God, man chose to believe the devil’s lie,
which resulted in man getting into the mess he is in today.

God on the other hand, reaching out to man in love,
made a way to reverse man’s situation,
at the same time not going against His own will.
Thus, by Jesus’ sinless sacrifice God’s judgement was satisfied,
… God opened the way for man to choose life through Jesus!

God’s part therefore was done!
The way to God and His blessing, free from all suffering, was complete,
… without having denied or overridden man’s freewill!
However, to live in God’s blessings and protection, free from suffering,
… is not up to God and is not His decision but ours!

God cannot and will not go against our freewill,
… but He will always respond to our decisions,
and if our decision is to open the door to Him,
… then He has the right to get involved in our lives,
and to deal with the situations we may find ourselves in!

Getting to know God

Posted on 1 CommentPosted in Covenant, Love, Relationship

life

      Getting to know GOD,
… that GOD, who seems so far away!

How do I truly get to know almighty God,
… how will I recognise Him and know who He really is,
… so that I can live a meaningful life,
and be at peace where I can put my trust in Him!

Sure I have repented and I think my life has changed,
… but somehow I still don’t feel that I really know God!

Well let’s look at what the Word says,
… who the Word is, and who God is.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God,
      and the Word was God.
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us,
      John 1:1,14

The Word clearly is God,
… Who became flesh and lived amongst us.
He is therefore the living expression of God in the flesh,
… Who came to express Who the Father is, to us!

And we have known and believed the love that God has for us.
God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God,
      and God in him.
      1 John 4:16

And how did Jesus express who the Father is?

For God so loved the world that He gave His only son …
      John 3:16

Jesus is the living expression of the Father, of Grace Himself,
… doing for us what we cannot do for ourselves,
… and giving to us what we do not deserve!

As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love.
If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love,
just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.
      John 15:9-10

How do I do that?

By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us.
And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
      1 John 3:16

Live love and you will know Love, because Love will be in you,
… and you will know the Father, for He is Love!

Don’t get offended

Posted on Leave a commentPosted in Character, Faith

      Don’t get offended
      when your faith is challenged!

There is an incident related in the Bible
… that would probably have offended most of us
if Jesus had said to us what He said to the woman of Canaan.

Then she came and worshiped Him, saying, “Lord, help me!”
But He answered and said, “It is not good to take the children’s
bread and throw it to the little dogs
.”
And she said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs
which fall from their masters’ table.”
Then Jesus answered and said to her,
“O woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire.”
And her daughter was healed from that very hour.
      Matt 15:25-28

Although it may seem as if Jesus intended to offend the Canaanite woman,
… Jesus was actually challenging her faith.
As a Canaanite, she was not worthy to ask what she asked,
… but she clearly believed that Jesus was the Messiah,
… and she had faith in His ability to heal her daughter.

So for her it was not about whether she was worthy,
… but about His love and compassion to heal.
Therefore, she was not offended by His challenge,
… but determined that His love would take care of her need.

That is the faith that Jesus saw.
That is the faith that moved Jesus to act on her behalf,
and …
That is the faith that He is looking for in our lives!

So that when your faith is challenged,
… you will not get offended,
but strengthened in your faith and trust in Him!

Acting on thoughts …

life

      Just taking a thought captive
      … does NOT work
      you have to act!

If you are anything like me, your mind is always active,
… and that is not only normal, but good!
However you should never allow thoughts to control you,
… but YOU should be in control of what occupies your mind!

The Bible gives us good advice, telling us to …

bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,
      2 Cor 10:5

However, somehow that does not seem to work too well!
Why not?

      Just taking a thought captive,
… without also acting on or against that thought,
      … does not work!
And therefore that thought returns again and again,
… until you have acted in accordance with a decision!

When you take a thought captive, in other words,
… when you don’t let it dictate your actions,
is only the start of what you need to do in dealing with a thought.
You NEED to take a decision and ACT on that decision,
… before the thought is properly dealt with.

Now you can say ‘but I have put it under the obedience of Christ’!
OK … so what did He say about that thought?
What did Jesus tell YOU to DO?

Just saying it is in Christ’s hands, is a copout!
… YOU are the one who must use your free will,
… YOU have to hear Christ for His answer regarding that thought,
YOU are the one who MUST act on Christ’s decision or instruction!

Only once you have acted on or against that thought,
… will you know what to do when the thought returns,
for then it will be easy to ignore a wrong thought,
… or act on the thought because you know what to do!

My peace I give to you

Posted on Leave a commentPosted in Character, Faith, Potential

      Peace I leave with you,
      My peace I give to you;
not as the world gives …
      But, what is this peace?

Before Jesus returned to the Father, He made this statement …

      Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you;
not as the world gives do I give to you.
Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
      John 14:27

What is this peace that Jesus gave to us?
If we look around us at this world and what is going on,
… it certainly does not look like there is any peace anywhere!

So, what is the peace that Jesus had,
… that peace that he left for us, that He gave us?
Jesus Himself gave us a clue, saying
‘not as the world gives do I give!’
That surely means to stop looking at what is going on, in the world,
… and to start looking at the life Jesus lived while He was on earth.

Now, what about Jesus’ life made it special (except not sinning)?

Jesus was never under pressure, nor not knowing what to do!
Why? Because He was at peace!
Why was Jesus always at peace?
Because He knew God, as Father and as Lord in His life!
… He knew the Father loved Him and would show Him all things,
… His life was at peace because He truly trusted in the Father,
… He heard the Father and the Father could direct His every step!
and His life was at peace because His trust in the Father was real!

For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things
that He Himself does; and He will show Him greater
works than these, that you may marvel.
      John 5:20

That is the peace Jesus left for us, that Jesus gave us,
… the peace that David wrote about in Psalm 23.
A peace that says,
… I accept what the Father says,
… because I believe that the Father is,
and that He is my shepherd, my strength, my surety and my peace!

The Hope of Glory

Posted on Leave a commentPosted in Covenant, Potential, Relationship

      Why does that glory …
so often seem so far away?

God gave us a Saviour,
… so if we receive Him as our Saviour,
and make Him Lord of our lives,
… we are saved!
As Jesus Himself confirmed,

I have come that they may have life,
and that they may have it more abundantly.
      John 10:10

Yet too often this new life in Christ seems all but abundant!

‘I thought that Christ in me was the end of the problems,
… but nothing much has changed in my life,
… everything still seems to be the same!’

However Scripture tells us that,

To them God willed to make known what are the
riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles:
which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
      Col. 1.27

Christ in us is the potential, the hope of glory,
… but for that potential to become a reality in my life,
I have to live that potential that is in Christ!

for in Him we live and move and have our being,
      Acts 17:28

As I make Him Lord in my life, and hear Him for my life,
… that potential that is in Him,
will also become the potential and reality in my life!

Therefore simply do what Jesus told us to do,

If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you,
you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.
      John 15:7

God’s Heart – Man’s Part

Posted on Leave a commentPosted in Character, Potential

life

      What is God’s heart
      and man’s part in
      … Creation and Life?

When we read about creation,
we mostly tend to look at what God did & prepared in creation,
… what God prepared for us, for mankind,
… as well as our place in creation!

That is not necessarily wrong, but it does miss the point some what!

Actually, creation is first and foremost about the creator God!
… and secondly about why and how He made man.

It is therefore not about what God created for man,
… all the blessings and promises He made.
It is also not about the abilities God bestowed on man,
… or the possibilities God prepared for man,
as those also are all only means to an end!

No, it is all about God, His character and His heart!

In Genesis chapter 1 we read about God’s full plan and purpose,
… and only if we understand that, will we understand Him!

26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image,
according to Our likeness; let them have dominion …
28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them,
      “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it;
have dominion … … on the earth.”
      Gen 1:26-28

God made man in His image and likeness, not for man’s self interest,
… but so that man could live and express all that HE is!
God blessed man and told man to live a fruitful life,
… again not for man’s personal benefit,
… but for the benefit of all of creation!

That is God’s heart, and when that becomes man’s heart,
… man will be living God’s plan for man!

Faith is not …

Posted on 1 CommentPosted in Faith, Potential

life

Faith is not about confessing God’s Word,
… when you have a need or a problem,
or to ask God to do something He promised.

Faith is about stepping out on what God has already done,
… stepping out on His word that is real to you,
His word that you are ready to stake your life on,
… because you know He will confirm what He said!

      So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth;
It shall not return to Me void,
But it shall accomplish what I please,
And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.
      Isa 55:11

Faith is not about what God can do,
… but it is about what you know He will do,
because you not only know His Word,
… but because you know Him,
… and because you hear His voice!

If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you,
you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.
      John 15:7

Are you willing to act on His word,
… not because you have a need,
but because you know Him and hear Him,
… and are willing to do what He said,
That’s Faith!

Be honest with yourself about your motives,
… and be honest in your actions,
and your faith will be the faith He acts upon!
