Acting on thoughts …

Posted on Leave a commentPosted in Character, Faith, Potential

      Just taking a thought captive
      … does NOT work
      you have to act!

If you are anything like me, your mind is always active,
… and that is not only normal, but good!
However you should never allow thoughts to control you,
… but YOU should be in control of what occupies your mind!

The Bible gives us good advice, telling us to …

bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,
      2 Cor 10:5

However, somehow that does not seem to work too well!
Why not?

      Just taking a thought captive,
… without also acting on or against that thought,
      … does not work!
And therefore that thought returns again and again,
… until you have acted in accordance with a decision!

When you take a thought captive, in other words,
… when you don’t let it dictate your actions,
is only the start of what you need to do in dealing with a thought.
You NEED to take a decision and ACT on that decision,
… before the thought is properly dealt with.

Now you can say ‘but I have put it under the obedience of Christ’!
OK … so what did He say about that thought?
What did Jesus tell YOU to DO?

Just saying it is in Christ’s hands, is a copout!
… YOU are the one who must use your free will,
… YOU have to hear Christ for His answer regarding that thought,
YOU are the one who MUST act on Christ’s decision or instruction!

Only once you have acted on or against that thought,
… will you know what to do when the thought returns,
for then it will be easy to ignore a wrong thought,
… or act on the thought because you know what to do!

My peace I give to you

Posted on Leave a commentPosted in Character, Faith, Potential

      Peace I leave with you,
      My peace I give to you;
not as the world gives …
      But, what is this peace?

Before Jesus returned to the Father, He made this statement …

      Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you;
not as the world gives do I give to you.
Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
      John 14:27

What is this peace that Jesus gave to us?
If we look around us at this world and what is going on,
… it certainly does not look like there is any peace anywhere!

So, what is the peace that Jesus had,
… that peace that he left for us, that He gave us?
Jesus Himself gave us a clue, saying
‘not as the world gives do I give!’
That surely means to stop looking at what is going on, in the world,
… and to start looking at the life Jesus lived while He was on earth.

Now, what about Jesus’ life made it special (except not sinning)?

Jesus was never under pressure, nor not knowing what to do!
Why? Because He was at peace!
Why was Jesus always at peace?
Because He knew God, as Father and as Lord in His life!
… He knew the Father loved Him and would show Him all things,
… His life was at peace because He truly trusted in the Father,
… He heard the Father and the Father could direct His every step!
and His life was at peace because His trust in the Father was real!

For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things
that He Himself does; and He will show Him greater
works than these, that you may marvel.
      John 5:20

That is the peace Jesus left for us, that Jesus gave us,
… the peace that David wrote about in Psalm 23.
A peace that says,
… I accept what the Father says,
… because I believe that the Father is,
and that He is my shepherd, my strength, my surety and my peace!

The Hope of Glory

Posted on Leave a commentPosted in Covenant, Potential, Relationship

      Why does that glory …
so often seem so far away?

God gave us a Saviour,
… so if we receive Him as our Saviour,
and make Him Lord of our lives,
… we are saved!
As Jesus Himself confirmed,

I have come that they may have life,
and that they may have it more abundantly.
      John 10:10

Yet too often this new life in Christ seems all but abundant!

‘I thought that Christ in me was the end of the problems,
… but nothing much has changed in my life,
… everything still seems to be the same!’

However Scripture tells us that,

To them God willed to make known what are the
riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles:
which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
      Col. 1.27

Christ in us is the potential, the hope of glory,
… but for that potential to become a reality in my life,
I have to live that potential that is in Christ!

for in Him we live and move and have our being,
      Acts 17:28

As I make Him Lord in my life, and hear Him for my life,
… that potential that is in Him,
will also become the potential and reality in my life!

Therefore simply do what Jesus told us to do,

If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you,
you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.
      John 15:7

God’s Heart – Man’s Part

Posted on Leave a commentPosted in Character, Potential

      What is God’s heart
      and man’s part in
      … Creation and Life?

When we read about creation,
we mostly tend to look at what God did & prepared in creation,
… what God prepared for us, for mankind,
… as well as our place in creation!

That is not necessarily wrong, but it does miss the point some what!

Actually, creation is first and foremost about the creator God!
… and secondly about why and how He made man.

It is therefore not about what God created for man,
… all the blessings and promises He made.
It is also not about the abilities God bestowed on man,
… or the possibilities God prepared for man,
as those also are all only means to an end!

No, it is all about God, His character and His heart!

In Genesis chapter 1 we read about God’s full plan and purpose,
… and only if we understand that, will we understand Him!

26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image,
according to Our likeness; let them have dominion …
28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them,
      “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it;
have dominion … … on the earth.”
      Gen 1:26-28

God made man in His image and likeness, not for man’s self interest,
… but so that man could live and express all that HE is!
God blessed man and told man to live a fruitful life,
… again not for man’s personal benefit,
… but for the benefit of all of creation!

That is God’s heart, and when that becomes man’s heart,
… man will be living God’s plan for man!

Faith is not …

Posted on 1 CommentPosted in Faith, Potential

Faith is not about confessing God’s Word,
… when you have a need or a problem,
or to ask God to do something He promised.

Faith is about stepping out on what God has already done,
… stepping out on His word that is real to you,
His word that you are ready to stake your life on,
… because you know He will confirm what He said!

      So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth;
It shall not return to Me void,
But it shall accomplish what I please,
And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.
      Isa 55:11

Faith is not about what God can do,
… but it is about what you know He will do,
because you not only know His Word,
… but because you know Him,
… and because you hear His voice!

If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you,
you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.
      John 15:7

Are you willing to act on His word,
… not because you have a need,
but because you know Him and hear Him,
… and are willing to do what He said,
That’s Faith!

Be honest with yourself about your motives,
… and be honest in your actions,
and your faith will be the faith He acts upon!

He does not change

Posted on Leave a commentPosted in Covenant, Relationship

How do you define what is right and what is wrong?

Is there an absolute standard of good?
How do you reconcile Old Testament teachings
… with the love Jesus taught?
Does God change and are His commandments negotiable?

God’s standard is absolutely clear …

      “For I am the Lord, I do not change;
Therefore you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob.
Yet from the days of your fathers you have gone away
from My ordinances and have not kept them.
Return to Me, and I will return to you,

      Mal 3:6-7

Yet, when God said ‘I do NOT change’
… He was not merely referring to His commandments,
but that His plans and love towards us will never change,
… and therefore we are not consumed!
However it is up to us to return to Him, to His love for us!

Returning to God means to get into a relationship with Him,
… that is why God sent Jesus – to restore us to Him!
Jesus, when asked what the greatest commandment is,
… answered that firstly it is loving God,
… and secondly it is loving others.

The way therefore seems clear, but how do I live that relationship,
… and how will that help me know what is right and what is wrong?

Jesus showed us the way in John 15:7 saying …
If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you,
you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.

So, how do I know what is right and what I should do?
Study God’s Word, then go to Jesus, ask Him, He will tell you!
And, how will I get to truly love God and love others?
Go to Jesus, ask Him, He will show you!

Let His love consume you!

All God – All Man

Posted on 1 CommentPosted in Character, Covenant

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.
      John 1:1-2

Jesus has always been all God,

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us,
and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten
of the Father, full of grace and truth.
      John 1:14

Conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of a virgin,
Jesus became a man and dwelt amongst us.
And yes,
… Jesus did live a sinless life,
… the kind of life God intended for us to live,

I do nothing of Myself; but as My Father taught Me,
      I speak these things.
      John 8:28

Yet there came a day, as it came to Adam,
… when the decision for or against God had to be made,
when Jesus, as a man, faced the life changing decision,
to choose God and His will to be done!

      “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me;
nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.”
      Luke 22:42

Jesus became All Man, doing what Adam failed to do,
… when as a man,
Jesus made the decision to do the will of the Father!

Thus, as All God and All Man, Jesus took our place,
… choosing to die as our sin offering,
that we may become ALL that the Father created us to be!

Righteous by Faith

Posted on Leave a commentPosted in Faith, Life, Potential

For the promise that he would be the heir of the world
was not to Abraham or to his seed through the law,
but through the righteousness of faith.
      Rom 4.13

We try to earn righteousness by our obedience, by our right doing,
… that’s obedience to the law, trying to live according to the law,
that’s not right living.
Obedience that comes from faith, trusting and living what God says,
… that is right believing,
that produces right living

Obedience is not the root, obedience is a fruit.
      Under the law,
… you are blessed because of your obedience.
      Under the new covenant,
… God blesses you because of Jesus’ obedience!

The blessing under grace produces repentance,
… and thus produces change in your life.

And it is the blessing that empowers you to obey.

You cannot and will not change
… until there’s something in you that can produce that change.

      Repentance is the turning point.
The blood of Jesus is the qualification.
      Grace is the power.
      Righteousness is the motor.
      Right believing is the roadmap.
      Christ is the goal!

It is through the blood of Jesus that we are qualified,
… to walk in the fullness of salvation, health, healing, abundance.

You cannot earn it, you can only receive it!

Expressing Love

Posted on Leave a commentPosted in Covenant, Love, Relationship

Why did God say …
“It is not good that man should be alone;”
      Gen 2:18

Now there may be many reasons,
… but only one embraces them all,
Man needs someone to Hug!

Man was created in God’s image, which means that,
… man has love in himself, because God is love.

He who does not love does not know God,
      for God is love.
      1 John 4:8

Man needs someone to Hug!

So I said to God … “isn’t that clever!”
God’s response was to ask me a question…
“Why do you think that I am One,
… Father, Son and Holy Spirit?”

“Because there are three of you?” I ventured.
“Yes, but why are there three of us?”
“Ok”, I replied, “I don’t know. Why?”

“As you have rightly said”, God replied, “I am Love,
… and for love to be real, it must be expressed,
therefore I want to express love to someone who’ll receive it,
… and at the same time express love to Me.
That is what I, Jesus and the Holy Spirit do all the time!”

God has always intended for us to be like Him,
not in looks or in power, or in any other way, but in love,
… being in His image which is expressed in love,
because love is Who He is and who we are also to be!

God’s original intention was that man not be alone.
However the reality of man not being alone,
… is found in the love, the God kind of love, that we express.

Living by Law or Grace

Posted on Leave a commentPosted in Faith, Relationship

Do you feel convicted, even condemned
… that you should have said something
… that you missed an opportunity to speak into someone’s life?

Sure, we often do, but should we?

One of the last things that Jesus said,
before He returned to the Father was,
… Go and make disciples (Matt.28:19)

Trying to live by the Book or by the law,
… will put a pressure on you to try and do,
and if you don’t, you will feel condemned,
… thinking that you came short of what was expected of you.

However that is not at all God’s plan or expectation,
… in fact Jesus said this about sin and salvation,

And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin,
and of righteousness, and of judgment:
      John 16:8

God does not expect us to try and convict others of sin,
… that’s not our call, but the call of the Holy Spirit.
But God wants us to work with the Holy Spirit,
… and live lives that show others the reality of salvation.

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see
your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

In all situations and challenges in life,

The law and trying to live by the book,
… will only pressurize you and make you feel condemned.

      Grace not only saves you,
… but frees you to be a living witness of Grace,

and thus touch the lives of those around you!
